“Limestone floor restoration is a meticulous and lengthy process which requires the expertise of a professional and its intended to get rid of etching, scratches and it’s the best stain-removal system”

Refinishing a limestone floor will bring back its natural luster by resurfacing the limestone floor or counter top. The restoration process is based on diamond sanding which will get rid of stains, etching and scratches. Etching is commonly caused by using the wrong kind of cleaner. Unfortunately most cleaners off the shelf are acidic and corrosive and are not designed specifically for natural stone and may cause etching on your limestone floor or counter top. They might be safe for ceramic tiles but not for natural stone. Most hardware stores sell PH neutral cleaners designed specifically to clean natural stone.

Splashing toilet cleaner on a limestone floor will damage the finish on the stone. At that point, if damage occurs the only solution is to perform a limestone floor restoration which can be expensive and only be performed by a specialized professional. The Limestone stain removal process might require a restoration of the whole area where the damage is located since polishing only the area where the damage is located will make it look brighter and cleaner than the rest due to the restoration process. So in order for you to have an even shinning floor you might require a limestone floor restoration of your whole floor or surface.

Should a spill occur on your limestone, try blotting the affected area with a cloth, as opposed to wiping it since it would just spread the substance therefore enlarging the damage.

Be aware that apple, tomato and orange juice, vinegar being acidic substances will damage your natural stone as well as chloride substances. Be careful when picking and using a cleaner on your natural stone surface.

You can find a PH neutral cleaner for natural stone at any hardware store but if you need some advice do not hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-770-7789.

We have been rated the #1 natural stone cleaning company in Southern California, serving Orange County and Los Angeles Counties, San Fernando Valley & San Diego. We specialize in limestone floor restoration, limestone floor polishing, limestone floor cleaning and sealing limestone floors.

Daily use will cause the sealer to wear off with time and make your limestone counter top dull and raw which will cause etching and stains to happen more rapidly. Tomato based spills, lemon juice, vinegar and orange juice will cause etching on your floor or counter top. Even a glass of water left overnight on your counter top will create an etching and the only way to repair the damage is through refinishing the affected areas.

Along with cleaning limestone tiles on a periodical basis sealing limestone floors will help you avoid blemishes that occur with daily usage. Sealing limestone will protect it against spills by helping repel liquids. Be aware sealing limestone it’s not guaranteed to protect 100%. It will only act as a retardant and give you time to clean the spill before any damage can take place.

Cleaning limestone tile with a PH Neutral cleaner will get rid of dirt and grime without going after the finish or the stone itself. The best way to clean limestone floors is to use simply warm water and PH Neutral cleaner. Both cleaning and sealing are the part of a good limestone floor maintenance plan.

Cracks occur on counter tops most commonly due to water leakage in the caulking in the sink perimeter area. Caulking tends to dry out and crack, therefore it is recommended it gets checked periodically to make sure it’s in good condition or get replaced periodically to avoid unpleasant surprises. When the wood under the slab swells due to water absorption it usually oxidizes the metal rod inserted in your counter top slab to help stabilize and strengthen it, then it pushes the metal rod up and cracks appear.

Another reason for cracks to appear is when there is structural damage to the surface. An uneven installed slab can cause the base of the counter top to give in and crack your counter top. Using epoxy & color matching compounds we try to match the patterns & natural characteristics of the stone.

The same epoxy & matching color compounds mentioned above are used to fill up pits that occur naturally on natural stone. Using flowing epoxy compound we’re able to fill the hole and then cover them with travertine colored epoxy to match the surrounding area.
